HOW MANY SPINAL DECOMPRESSION SESSIONS WILL BE NEEDED AND ARE THE PAINFUL?
The number of sessions needed and your specific treatment plan will be determined by the doctor after your examination. However, typically Decompression Therapy begins with a series of sessions 3-4 times per week. Each session is approximately 8-12 minutes. During each session, electrical muscle stimulation or ultrasound therapy may be applied to help relax muscles and promote further healing of injured tissues. After treatment, your doctor may prescribe specific exercises designed to help regain proper control and strength of the stabilization muscles which can help create long term benefits. Clinical studies suggest Decompression Therapy provides a majority or qualified candidates with initial relief within just a few sessions. In almost all cases, the treatments are completely painless. In fact, some patients fall asleep during the spinal decompression session.
ARE THERE CONDITIONS WHERE SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY IS NOT INDICATED?
Spinal Decompression Therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, patients who have osteoporosis, severe obesity or nerve damage. Spinal surgery with instrumentation (screws, metal, plates or “cages”) is also a contraindication for treatment. However, spinal decompression therapy after bone fusion or non-fusion spinal surgery can be performed.
